Today started like any ordinary day,
fighting aliens and trying to uncover the infamous space diamond. Commander
Chirp Skylar was determined to beat these foes and to continue exploring. He
was in an intense fight with an alien spaceship, until he heard the mother ship
calling him to retreat. He groaned and got off his soap box and went to his
mom. Chirp is a one year old baby bird who dreams big of being the first bird
into space. He can’t fly well so he trains himself every day to get better at
it, and dreams up adventures to motivate himself. He calls them his daily
“space explorations.” He even wears a little helmet his mom, the Mothership,
gave him for his birthday. The Mothership, told him that she was going to go
get food, and he can stay in the “base” or find fellow space cadets to explore
with. Chirp wanted to take advantage of his mom being away so he can find a
space diamond for her. He told the Mothership that he would explore. The Mothership
told him to be careful and to have fun and flew away. Chirp went on his little
pulley contraption so he can get down the tree, and begin exploring. He found
little treasures, but nothing that would surprise the Mothership. He found a
little cave and though he could find something interesting. He instead found Ignacio
and his gang. Ignacio was a mean blue jay. All he would ever do was make fun of
Chirp. Chirp started to leave and Ignacio say him and followed him out. Ignacio
began taunting him and telling him he will never become a space bird. Chirp
started to feel sad and just wanted to go to the base. He ignored Ignacio and
made his way to the pulley. Ignacio grabbed Chirp’s wing and pushed him to the
ground and took off his helmet. Chirp yelled to give it back and Ignacio threw
it on the ground. Chirp started to cry, and Ignacio flew away in fear when the
Mothership came down. She saw the broken helmet and a sad space cadet. She
carried her little boy and put him in the pulley and helped him to the nest. He
didn’t eat, and the next day didn’t doing any explorations. That night his mom
went up to him and told him she had a surprise for him. She gave him another
helmet, one that was made of plastic. He didn’t put it on or get excited. He
told her he wouldn’t be a space bird. The Mothership wanted to do something to
bring the stars back into his eyes. That night she told Chirp to put his helmet
on just for her. He hesitated, but did it. Then he saw his mom get some string
and flew up. The base lifted in the air. He was confused. The Mothership asked,
“Where to Commander?” He was so happy that he was in a spaceship! He told her
where to go. She said she knew a place he hasn’t explored and decided to take
him there. He was confused. All he saw was a pond that he’s been to before. She
tweeted loudly and the pond lit up with fireflies. They were flying close to
the stars! They flew for a while and told his mom to go by a flower. He tweeted
so happily that the Mothership felt they should return to the base. Chirp
hugged her and told her thank you. He had something in his wing and she asked
what it was. He gave it to her and said he finally found the space diamond he
was looking for. She hugged and thanked him. They curled up together and slept
the night away.
